A CONTEMPORARY ARTIST
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Born and raised in a small town north of Prescott, Arizona, southwest culture and art have inspired my artwork greatly, both in patterns and color palettes. My paintings have been described as looking like hand painted woven tapestries, or as southwest mandalas. These detailed, mosaic style pieces are painted with acrylic paint on canvas. Each piece takes between 150 and 300 hours to produce, depending on the size and complexity of the piece.

I've always considered myself to be an artist. I didn't realize this until I was well into my thirties, but apparently all kids don't go home after school and do art for hours, and spend their weekends painting and drawing. But, that's how it worked in my house! I was fortunate enough to come from a family who fostered my love of the arts, and I was able to take art both in school as well as private classes.
Like many other children, I grew away from my art as I reached my teenage and college years. Although I was still taking art classes, painting took a back seat to my busy school and social life. I only re-discovered my passion while living abroad in South Korea. For years I lived on Geoje Island, a small island off the coast near Busan. There I found myself isolated from friends, family, and other foreigners, and I felt lonely pretty quickly. I'm so grateful for this, because this solitude really pushed me back to my art. After a particularly long and lonely winter I dove deep into my painting, and I haven't put the brush down since.

Painting is my gift, my love, and my addiction. Please enjoy, and feel free to reach out with any inquiries.
BEHIND THE SCENES
My new piece, "Sedona at Dawn," is inspired by beautiful Sedona, Arizona - the red rocks, every shade of taupe you could possibly imagine, and of course the Arizona blue sky.
"The days you work are the best days."

if I'm painting,
I'm at home.

"Over a year ago I purchased a large original painting that hangs in my bedroom. It’s the first thing I see each morning, bringing me so much joy and inspiration! I look forward to buying another piece of Shannon’s art soon."
